    • HISTORICALLY PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE AMONG DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS THAT ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE UNDERREPRESENTED AND UNDERSERVED. LEGISLATORS MUST STEP UP AND SERVE AS A PRINCIPAL CONDUIT THROUGH WHICH INFORMATION/EDUCATION IS PROVIDED TO THE BROADER ELECTORATE ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CENSUS. WE NEED TO PROVIDE AN ACTIVE INTERVENTION, WHICH INCLUDES DRAWING SAMPLE MAPS FOR EACH STATE, TO ENSURE PARITY, AS THE ACTUAL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES ARE DRAWN FOR NOT JUST US CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES, BUT FOR STATE AND LOCAL REPRESENTATION AS WELL.

    • A LACK OF AFRICAN AMERICAN DIVERSITY IN CLINICAL STUDIES CAN HAVE CRUCIAL HEALTH IMPLICATIONS IN MINORITY POPULATIONS. AS MEDICINES ARE LAUNCHED WITH LITTLE UNDERSTANDING OF AFRICAN AMERICAN GENETIC INTERACTIONS; PARTICIPATION IN TRIALS MAY LEAD TO A POSITIVE IMPACT ON PATIENT SERVICES. THIS SESSION WILL PROVIDE ATTENDEES WITH AN IMPROVED UNDERSTANDING OF CLINICAL TRIALS AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO SHARE WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES.

TOPIC: TACKLING GUN VIOLENCE AND THE GUN LOBBY: COLLABORATING AND BUILDING MUTUAL POWER THROUGH LEGISLATIVE FIGHTS (PRESENTED BY EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY)

  • THIS PRESENTATION IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CONFERENCE ATTENDEES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY AND THEIR WORK IN GUN POLICY AT THE STATE LEVEL.  THIS SESSION WILL DISCUSS ANTICIPATED LEGISLATION AND HOW IT MAY AFFECT COMMUNITIES OF COLOR AND HOW EVERYTOWN CAN WORK WITH LEGISLATORS TO ADDRESS GUN SAFETY.
