PHILADELPHIA, (August 4, 2016)—According to a five-year progress report the company released today, Comcast’s acclaimed Internet Essentials program has helped connect 750,000 families, or 3 million low-income Americans, to low-cost, high-speed internet service at home.

Comcast and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announce pilot program to close the digital divide for public housing residents in Miami, Nashville, Philadelphia, and Seattle

PHILADELPHIA (March 24, 2016)—Comcast today announced a pilot program with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) ConnectHome initiative to attack the digital divide for public housing residents. Eligibility for Internet Essentials, Comcast’s acclaimed, high-speed Internet adoption program, will be immediately extended to public housing residentsin Miami-Dade Countyand the cities of Nashville, Philadelphia, and Seattle. This is the eighth time in five years Comcast has expanded eligibility for Internet Essentials.

NBCSL Congratulates Duple Travillion on Becoming 2nd Vice Chair

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is pleased to congratulate Duple Travillion, Senior State and Local Government Affairs Representative for Federal Express (FedEX),  on his appointment to the Corporate Roundtable’s (CRT) Executive Team as 2nd Vice Chair. Mr. Travillion appointment comes after Marvin Bembry, resigned as 2nd Vice Chair after leaving his position with AbbVie. 

Comcast Extends Internet Essentials Program

Comcast announced that it will extend its Internet Essentials program indefinitely (beyond its initial three year commitment). Internet Essentials is Comcast's national broadband adoption program for low-income families. It provides low-cost broadband service; the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer; and multiple options to access free digital literacy training in print, online, and in-person.

Drivers Called to Join the "It Can Wait Movement!" Get Involved with "Drive 4 Pledges Day" on September 19th

A movement is accomplished through the voices and actions of many. That is why four national wireless service providers, spearheading the It Can Wait campaign, are urging people to share their commitment to never text and drive with others on Drive 4 Pledges Day, September 19. Aspiring to create a social stigma around this dangerous habit of texting while driving, Drive 4 Pledges Day will focus on getting individuals involved in taking the pledge to never text and drive while encouraging others in their community to do the same. These individuals will join AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile US, Inc., Verizon, and more than 200 other organizations by sharing their commitment not to text and drive while increasing awareness of the dangers.

Comcast recently announced, a new Internet destination site that brings together a black entertainment content from a variety of sources in one, easy to navigate location.
