FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, NBCSL is saddened over the senseless killings of numerous people in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX. We express are deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. NBCSL is in support of gun control laws to put an end to the countless mass shootings in this country.
“We are deeply hurt about what has occurred in this country over the past two weeks. Mothers, grandmothers, children, aunts, and uncles have been taken from their loved ones,” said Representative Billy Mitchell, President of NBCSL, “We must enact laws to protect our citizens, so that they will feel safe going to the grocery store, attending church, and sending their children to school. Everyone deserves to make it back home safely.”
NBCSL condemns those who incite hate and uses their hatred for others as motivation to take innocent lives. We encourage lawmakers—federal and state level—to make gun control a legislative priority.
“Make no mistake, the Federal government continues to fail to protect generation after generation from gun violence. The tragic massacre of the students and staff at Robb Elementary demands immediate action from Congress. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, there are no more excuses for the failure to protect the most vulnerable among us. We pray for the parents and community that has been devastated by the actions of an 18-year-old boy. A boy who has been failed by our society. A boy who has been taught that guns are the solution to his problems. We must address the culture that deems access to deadly weapons more vital than human life. The Caucus joins the national call to end the filibuster and prioritize life.” Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages, Chair of the NYS Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus.
We are urging for the adoption of gun control laws nationwide. Enough is enough. Our constituents deserve to feel safe and NBCSL will work to ensure that laws are put in place to protect them.
