NBCSL’s Statement on the Retirement of HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge

As President of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Secretary Marcia Fudge for her dedicated service to our country.

Serving as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – only the second African American person in history to hold the position – Secretary Fudge’s leadership has been instrumental in addressing critical issues facing our communities, particularly those disproportionately affected by housing insecurity and inequity. Her unwavering commitment to advocating for affordable housing, combating homelessness and boosting economic development opportunities throughout communities has made a significant impact on the lives of countless Americans, and has helped shape the landscape of housing equity and economic empowerment across the nation.

We are profoundly grateful for Secretary Fudge’s longstanding relationship with NBCSL and her active participation in several of our Annual Legislative Conferences. Her presence, insights, and leadership have greatly enriched our meetings, providing inspiration and guidance to legislators from across the country.  We fondly recall Secretary Fudge’s keynote address at our 45th Annual Legislative Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where her powerful words resonated deeply with attendees and underscored the importance of our collective efforts in shaping a more just and equitable society.

As Secretary Fudge embarks on the next chapter of her journey, we extend our sincerest thanks for her extraordinary service to our nation and our organization. Her legacy of advocacy, compassion and leadership will continue to inspire us as we work toward building a brighter future for all Americans.

Secretary Marcia Fudge, my dear friend, thank you for our many years of friendship and the unforgettable, cherished memories along the way. I salute you and wish you all the best in your retirement.
