The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is deeply saddened by the passing of Representative G.A. Hardaway, a longtime member and respected leader within our organization.
Throughout his time with NBCSL, Representative Hardaway was a respected voice whose contributions helped shape many of the important issues before the Caucus. As a dedicated member, he also served as Chair of the International Affairs Committee, working to strengthen global partnerships and bring greater attention to issues with international impact.
For 19 years, Rep. Hardaway represented Tennessee House District 93 with honor and distinction. His leadership extended to serving as Chair of the Shelby County Legislative Democratic Caucus and as former Chair of the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators, where he advanced priorities closely aligned with the mission of NBCSL. In recognition of his leadership and service, he was honored with NBCSL’s Legislator of the Year Award/Region IV in 2021.
Representative Hardaway will be remembered for his commitment to public service, his thoughtful leadership, and the lasting impact he made within NBCSL and beyond. His deep pride in African heritage was reflected not only in his work, but also in personal style, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
