Closing Plenary
WHUR’s Harold Fisher moderated the Closing Plenary discussion “Unifying Our Digital Footprints: How to Apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Create Opportunity for All” with panelists, including Becky Pringle, president, National Education Association; Diya Wynn, responsible AI lead at AWS, Amazon Web Services; Simone Hall Wood, Meta; and Louis Stewart, head of Strategic Initiatives for the Developer Ecosystem, NVIDIA. David P. Richardson Nation Builder Awards Ceremony
On Friday, December 6, 2024, the National Black Caucus of State Legislators hosted its annual David P. Richardson, Jr. Nation Builder Awards Ceremony, named in honor of the late Pennsylvania House of Representatives member and NBCSL’s third president, who served for 23 years. The event was hosted by Master and Mistress of Ceremonies, EZ Street and Ebony McMorris. The event featured the swearing-in of newly elected NBCSL Executive Officers and musical performances by acclaimed vocalist Cienna Alida.
The following NBCSL awards were presented:
- Regis Groff Youth Award: Kimani Lawson, a local high school student
- Freshman Legislator of the Year Award: Virginia Delegate Candi Mundon King
- Regional Legislator of the Year Award: Rhode Island Representative Raymond Hull
- Legislator of the Year: Texas Senator Borris Miles
- NBCSL Lifetime Achievement Award: Kansas Representative Barbara Ballard
- Crystal Gavel: New York Senator James Sanders, Jr.
Our distinguished Nation Builder Awards were presented to the following:
- Architect of Progress and Unity: The Honorable Wes Moore, Maryland Governor
- Guardian of Fiscal Responsibility: Ms. Shalanda Young, Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget
- Defender of Truth and Accountability in Journalism: Ms. April Ryan, Award-Winning Journalist
- Champion of Light and Inspiration: Ms. Yolanda Adams, Award-Winning Gospel Artist
- Advocate for Youth Empowerment and Opportunity: Mr. Davon Kelly, Founder of The 13th Man
