The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is the leading organization dedicated to empowering African American state legislators across the country. With over 700 members advocating for more than 60 million Americans, NBCSL is a dynamic network that drives public policy innovation, fosters information exchange, and champions collaborative action on key issues impacting African Americans and other marginalized communities.
Through research, education, and advocacy, NBCSL strengthens its members and helps them remain effective and influential voices on Capitol Hill.
Our Mission
NBCSL’s core mission is to create and promote educational, research, and training initiatives that empower its members to make informed decisions on legislation and public policy, often directly or indirectly impacting the well-being of African American communities across the country.

To act as a national network and clearinghouse for the exchange of ideas and information among African American state legislators and their staffs
To improve the effectiveness of African American state legislators and their staff through quality research, training, and educational services.
