Black Caucus Condemns White Nationalist Rally Planned for DC

“The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) denounces the Unite the Right 2 march that will be held in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, August 13,” says NBCSL President Gregory Porter. Exactly one year after the first Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, VA, many of the same white-nationalist, paramilitary, and other right-wing groups are planning to come together for a second-anniversary rally in Washington, D.C.

“The Alt-Right wants to take a message of bigotry, hate and racism to our nation’s capital and that is unacceptable. The wounds from the demonstration that occurred in Charlottesville last year have not healed, yet they seek to continue to sow seeds of divisiveness in America,” says Porter.

“We are in a time in the history of the United States when unity and cooperation should be paramount to enable us to develop common goals to address the economy, social ills and other issues so important to all Americans. NBCSL is dedicated and committed to bringing together individuals and other organizations to work for positive change in our country.

“We abhor the Alt-Right’s ongoing efforts to create friction between the people of this great nation. Even though they have first amendment rights, there is no place for the Alt-Right and similar groups in America,” Porter says.
