Ida made landfall in Louisiana Sunday afternoon as a strong Category 4 hurricane, bringing with her life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic wind damage, and flooding. Ida has been downgraded to a tropical depression and continues to move northward, dumping heavy rainfall.

As of 7:30 a.m. EDT, approximately 1.06 million electricity customers are without power in Louisiana and Mississippi, with the bulk of the outages in Louisiana.* Electric company crews worked through the night and restored power to more than 67,000 customers, doing what they can, where they can, provided it is safe to do so.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities and customers impacted by Ida. We know that being without electricity creates hardships and is frustrating during ordinary times. We ask for, and greatly appreciate, our customers’ patience and understanding, and urge them to prepare for the possibility of extended power outages.

Last week, electric companies in the path of Ida strategically pre-positioned equipment, resources, and mutual assistance workers from other states to assist in their storm response as conditions allow. Already, more than 25,000 workers from at least 32 states and the District of Columbia are mobilized to assist with restoration efforts when and where they can, provided it is safe to do so. Mutual assistance is a hallmark of the electric power industry.
