NBCSL Applauds the Supreme Court’s Decision on Marriage Equality

June 26, 2015 - The United States Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision ruled that all states must recognize same sex marriage as well as cannot prevent same sex marriages. NBCSL President Sen. Catherine Pugh issued the following statement:

“The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) applauds the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Obergerfell v. Hodges. The Court’s decision ends years of limbo and finally gives all of our constituents access to a right that is incredibly important and valued. We will continue to support policies that that provide people with opportunity and enable them to support their loved ones.”

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) primary mission is to develop, conduct and promote educational, research and training programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of its members, as they consider legislation and issues of public policy which impact, either directly or indirectly upon "the general welfare" of African American constituents within their respective jurisdictions.
