Statement on the Recent Oklahoma Tragedy

In the wake of the tornado that damaged the state of Oklahoma, NBCSL President Joe Armstrong (TN) issues the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by the recent tornadoes and storm damage in our mid-Western states. While centered in the small towns of Oklahoma, the damage was widespread and far reaching. Monday’s tornado has been labeled the worst since May of 2011.

During these difficult times, it can be even harder for impoverished and under-represented communities to get back on their feet. The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) recognizes this and stands ready to provide aid and support to the families and communities affected and to help move Oklahoma toward full recovery. Our Oklahoma legislators are already on the ground pulling communities and resources together and offering help and assistance.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this tragedy. Events like these affect all Americans and as we rebuild Oklahoma, we rebuild our nation.”

We have much to accomplish together.  Learn about our legislative and private sector memberships.
