Model Legislation
Tennessee SB1166
Tracking Wrongful DUI Offenses
Law, Justice, and Ethics (LJE) Committee
This law requires law enforcement agencies to track and report cases where DUI charges are filed but later dismissed or result in acquittal, particularly when initial stops or arrests may have been based on bias or insufficient evidence. It creates accountability for wrongful DUI arrests that disproportionately impact certain communities. The legislation seeks to identify patterns of improper enforcement and improve police training and accountability.
