On behalf of our President, Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter (SC), the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) expresses its condolences to the Smyre Foster Family on the passing of Gwen Smyre Foster, sister of State Rep. Calvin Smyre (GA), NBCSL Past President and Dean of the GA State House.

Gwen Smyre Foster, sister of State Rep. Calvin Smyre, Dean of the House, passed away Wednesday morning at her home. She was a 1966 graduate of Spencer High School & Columbus State University and a retired financial analyst with Pratt & Whitney. She was a devout member of Pinehurst Baptist Church and mother of four children: Robbie Foster Branscomb, Robert Foster, Jr., Francine Foster and Claudia Valrie. She is the daughter of US Army Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Carter Smyre, Jr. Her Mother, Mildred Rudine Smyre preceded her.
