Alexis Watts
Alexis Watts is the Executive Director of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus where she is deeply committed to enhancing the economic, educational, political, and social conditions of minority communities in the State of Indiana. Through her role, she fosters collective action by engaging IBLC legislators and their respective staffs in alignment with the caucus’s strategic priorities.
A proud graduate of Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, Alexis earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Ball State University, where she was an active member of the Student Government Association. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs at Indiana University Indianapolis, furthering her commitment to public service and leadership.
Inspired by the late Honorable Z. Mae Jimison, the first Black woman to serve as a judge on the Marion Superior Court, Alexis has long been devoted to community service from a young age. In 2023, she was honored as Harvest Girls International’s Woman of the Year in recognition of her contributions to the community and dedication to personal development.
Alexis is passionate about education equity, housing, and mental health. She values authentic connections and seeks to drive positive change through policymaking, with aspirations of becoming a public official. Alexis is keen on engaging in meaningful dialogue to create a positive impact in her community.
Parliamentarian
As Parliamentarian, the responsibilities are to ensure that NBLSLC meetings are conducted in order of Roberts Rules. Participate on other committees as well.
