Tanisha Woods

This month we SPOTLIGHT our own Chairwoman, Tanisha Woods (OK) – In addition to serving the amazing legislative professional organization that is NBLSLC, In April, Tanisha was elected as the President of Georgia Brown Democratic Women – an organization that takes the lead on voter registration, education, and engaging voters, while providing leadership workshops to help develop leaders. Her duties extend beyond the halls of the capitol in the Oklahoma Senate. In her role as President in this community organization she has managed to reinvigorate others to get involved in the civic process. Not realizing the magnetic personality, she has, people have gravitated toward membership to work and be apart of the movement under her leadership. This year she was appointed Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Connections and Social Action State Coordinator. She developed a very successful program for 2023 AKA Day at the Capitol. It proved informational and impactful as the presence of over 70 women dressed in Pink and Pearls were recognized in both the House and Senate Chambers. An enriching panel discussion with the members of the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus as well as a panel on Maternal Health was a part of what made this day amazing. The outcome and evaluation of the day were overwhelmingly positive, which resulted in request for her to oversee planning for other major groups. She led the charge on the State of Black Oklahoma and continues to write her weekly column for the Oklahoma City Herald Newspaper. It is common for Tanisha to accept speaking engagements to provide legislative overview and essence of why voter engagement is important to the survival of our democracy. Recently, she was submitted as a nominee for the 43rd Annual Woman of the Year program. The Journal Record will honor 50 women who are making a difference in the state. In Sum, Tanisha wears the light that she wants to see in this world and fully engages in the effort to institute positive initiatives within the community she serves.
