The National Black Caucus of State Legislators Statement on the Celebration of Women’s History Month

Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2021 – The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL)

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, the National Black Caucus of State Legislators honors the sacrifice and commitment of our strong and courageous women law makers. We are not only proud of your noteworthy accomplishments, but we are indeed a better organization because of your contributions. Together, we will continue to improve the effectiveness and quality of African American state legislators as we address issues such as, gender‐ based pay inequality. Together, we will effectively advocate for the breaking of glass ceilings in the public and private business sectors. During the course of this historic month, we will celebrate some of our distinguished colleagues who have and continues to contribute to the growth and stature of NBCSL. Together, we celebrate groundbreakers like the late Tennessee State Representative Lois DeBerry, a NBCSL Founding Member and Past President, Past President Rep. May H. Coleman (MS), Past President, Past President and Past President, Rep. Barbara Ballard (KS). And, together we will continue developing change agents like, Past‐ President, Rep. Gilda Cobb‐Hunter(SC) and President‐elect Rep. Laura V. Hall (AL). Join me, along with our Executive Committee and Staff as we highlight the many accomplishments and achievements of our women lawmakers.
