Svetlana has a natural passion for service. After high school, she joined the U.S. Navy as an Electrician Mate, Level 3. At the age of 19, she was deployed during Desert Storm on the USS Cape Cod. Once returning home, she continued her education at DeVry University, earning her bachelor’s degree in computer science with a concentration in Business. Svetlana joined the Walmart Stores, Incorporated family in 1989 and quickly advanced to managing several associates from different stores. During her 30 plus years of service, she worked on the E-commerce side of retail and was a facilitator for Walmart Academy.

After retiring from Walmart Stores, Incorporated, Svetlana sought a fresh start and decided to move to the Champaign-Urbana area. She became involved within her community where her management and facilitation skills were evident. As a result, she was recruited to join Representative Carol Ammons’ team as Intern Coordinator in 2022. She has developed a passion for public policy as well as constituent services. She is looking forward to expanding the office’s internship program at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Svetlana takes pride in serving constituent needs within the Champaign-Urbana community. “I simply enjoy helping people”, she says. Growing up in a family of nurses, it was instilled in her to care for others. It is just a natural, comfortable fit.

It is a great pleasure to uplift and spotlight Svetlana on her many accomplishments and the journey that led her to Representative Ammons office.  Our work as a legislative staff member is ongoing and sometimes arduous, but we know that it takes special individual to remain steadfast in this work.  NBLSLC is honored to salute our members and showcase their amazing skills, determination, and professional grit.  Svetlana thank you for the work that you do!  We salute you!
