ALBANY – President Biden has nominated Brooklyn Assemblyman Nick Perry to serve as ambassador to Jamaica.

The White House announcement of the nomination comes weeks after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) publicly supported Perry for the post.

The 71-year-old was born in Jamaica and immigrated to the U.S. in 1971. A Brooklyn College graduate, he served in the Army before becoming active in the Democratic party in Brooklyn and was elected to the Assembly in 1992.

Perry said he was honored by the nomination and thanked Schumer for advocating on his behalf.

He added that he will serve with the highest integrity and always in the best interests of our country and our president should I be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
