Black lawmakers call for more COVID-19 aid for black businesses and rural towns in SC

A group of black state legislators said Monday that South Carolina officials need to provide more COVID-19 testing and help for residents in predominantly black rural communities ” populations that have been profoundly and disproportionately affected by the virus.

“Here in South Carolina and across the country, testing has not been ramped up in significant numbers that will really get us to where we need to be,” state Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter said during an online news conference. Hunter is a Democrat from Orangeburg who is president of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators
