NBCSL is saddened by the passing of South Carolina State Senator John Scott. Senator Scott was a long time South Carolina lawmaker having served in the state legislature since 1991. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1991-2009, representing 77th district. He was then elected to serve in the South Carolina State Senate representing the 19th district from 2009 until his untimely death.
During his years as lawmaker, Senator Scott worked tirelessly for the people of Columbia, SC. He served on the College and University Trustee Screening Commission, a Joint Committee with members from the House and Senate, Senate Banking and Insurance, Education, Finance, Labor, Commerce and Industry, Legislative Oversight, and Medical Affairs Committees.
Senator Scott has been a member of NBCSL since he was elected in the legislature. He was a light to all legislators new and seasoned. He will be greatly missed by his NBCSL family. NBCSL honors Senator Scott’s legacy and will continue to work just as he did as a legislator.
